Reviews
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 64.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excelent for the price Got this as part of a kit for work. Excellent lens for the price. Used for portraits, product photography etc Does feel cheap (light/plasticy) but for $200 you expect that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ‘Nifty Fifty’. When I became about more serious about my photography I was asked by others, do you have the ‘Nifty Fifty’ in your bag? Fantastic little prime that is also a piece of Canon history. When I found out that this has been in production since 1990 (with an update) I wouldn’t be surprised if more of these little beauties have been sold than any other lens. A staple in any camera bag I have even seen users of other branded DLSR’s use this with adaptors. Super fast and light, and the image quality is comparable to more expensive 50mm lenses which is why this lens is much loved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Fantastic Lens This is an upgrade to the old 'Nifty 50' or 'Plastic Fantastic' 50mm prime lens, an old time classic because of the great quality photos it could take for the very low price. This upgraded STM model improves on the original in various ways, including: - Much more quiet motor thanks to the STM (Canon Stepping Motor) system, for quicker and quiet focus - Improved bokeh (background blur effect) due to using 7 instead of 5 aperture blades - Better build quality including a metal mount This camera is fantastic for street photography. Only warning is that on a cropped sensor (APS-C) found on many low/mid level Canon cameras (and even some top end ones like the 7D MKII) 50mm can be a bit narrow. So you'll need to move back from your subjects considerably more compared to an 18mm zoom kit lens. The f/1.8 is simply fantastic. The depth of field you get is excellent as a result and is great for portraits. All in all, it's one of the best purchases I've made when it comes to any gadgets and an absolute must for everyone's lens bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best value prime lens! I use this lens mostly for portraits in family events and as a walk around lens when I travel. I pair this lens either with my Canon M50 mk II or an older Canon 3000N film camera. It fits nice and snug when adapted to the M50 with zero compatibility issue. All auto focus functions of the camera works flawlessly. It also fits the older film camera even though it's a "newer" lens. However, the lens produces a soft images when used at its widest apperture (f/1.8). This is particularly noticeable in lowlight condition for digital images, (mostly) a non-issue for films.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crystal clear portraits I've been using this lens for over a month in a variety of circumstances and can't fault it. Great for family and pets indoors in low light and a very versatile street lens. For the price, you can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little lens Incredible value lens. Very sharp photos with beautiful bokeh compared to the 18-135mm kit lens that came with the camera I bought, at a price that makes this lens a must have if you're looking for a quality inexpensive prime. Ordered during L4 lockdown so a slight delay in delivery because of that but basically delivered quickly and excellent communications by Harvey Normans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pocket Rocket Nifty Fifty This was the first lens I purchased when I first started teaching myself Photography. Everyone raved about this little lens. I do use sometimes for landscaped but mostly for people. I have been part of a soccer club for over 30 years now and have started volunteering taking photos at the ground. This day I used it was special as we were raising funds for Breast Cancer. My friend, who is also in the soccer family was diagnosed as did my sister a month later. This little lens captured some lovely mome ts that day.
